Among the most powerful tenets of the Christmas story has been for two millennia "Peace on Earth." The Ojibwe believe "to love is know peace. You must love yourself in order to love another."

Opinion. The selection of Rep. Deb Haaland, a tribal citizen of the Pueblo of Laguna, as secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior is historic. It makes her the first American Indian to ever hold a cabinet-level position within a presidential administration in the history of the United States.

OPINION. Most treaties include the sweeping language to provide ~ “health, education and social welfare” into perpetuity. The 1855 Treaty with the Makah specifically referenced the obligation to vaccinate in the following language, “shall furnish medicine and advice to the sick, and shall vaccinate them…”

Opinion. Soon the coronavirus will have claimed the lives of 300,000 Americans due to the total incompetence of President Donald Trump, who has proven to be both a poor leader and a sore loser. He has done virtually nothing to curb the Covid-19 death rate since losing the presidential election. These tragic deaths will leave 300,000 empty seats around the tables across America this Christmas.

OPINION. The first name of the Trinity River is Hupa. It is our name, too. We are the Hoopa Valley Tribe. My people have lived on the Trinity River in northwest California for more than 10,000 years. We live in balance with nature sustained by the Trinity River and its resources. Our prayers and culture revolve around the health and well-being of our river.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — All Pueblo Council of Governors (APCG) convened our monthly meeting to prioritize pandemic response efforts as well as matters collectively important to the 20 Pueblos of New Mexico and Texas. Opinion. The news that Jalajhia Finklea’s body was found in a field along a Florida highway came during Thanksgiving week. The young pregnant Mashpee Wampanoag tribal citizen went missing on October 20, 2020, on the night before her 18th birthday. Her remains were discovered over a month later 1,350 miles from her home.

OPINION. On December 31, 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported an abnormal viral pneumonia in Wuhan, China. The cause of this pneumonia was later found to be a novel coronavirus dubbed COVID-19, leading to a global pandemic of historic proportions. Later, on February 26, 2020, the first U.S. confirmed case of non-travel associated COVID-19 was found in a California resident, with a second U.S. case of COVID-19 appearing two days later in the State of Washington.
