Wade, a little more than a month after a draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito was leaked that forewarned the public that the court was preparing to change its course on protecting abortions. This weekend, renowned painter, muralist, and ultrarunner Yatika Starr Fields (Osage, Cherokee, and Muskogee Creek) is running in the Western States Endurance Run. The 100-mile race, which will begin at 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, takes place on the Western States Trail through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. This popular trail runs along with the homelands of the Southeastern Pomo, Ohlone, Washoe, and the Nisenan. These elaborate trails were once used for trade with nearby Native peoples, including the Miwok, the Maidu, and the Patwin.

On Thursday, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Carlos Vega v. Terence B. Tekoh that a plaintiff may not sue a police officer for obtaining an improper admission of an “un-Mirandized” statement used in a criminal prosecution. The ruling does not impact the exclusion of evidence obtained without the Miranda warning for a criminal trial.
