Overview:

Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Deb Haaland for New Mexico governor, highlighting her organizing experience and campaign priorities on education, affordability, public safety and health care.

President Barack Obama has endorsed New Mexico Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland (Laguna Pueblo). In a video posted to social media, Obama says that Haaland will “lower costs, strengthen education, build safer communities, and protect your healthcare because she knows what families are up against

The popular former president cites Haaland’s experience as an organizer, where she knocked on thousands of doors in Indian Country and heard stories from every corner of New Mexico.

“I am honored to earn the support of President Barack Obama for my campaign,” Haaland said. “Just like President Obama, I got my start as an Organizer where I knocked on thousands of doors, listened to New Mexicans, and heard their stories. Now, I’m running for Governor to take those concerns to the Roundhouse and create a New Mexico where everyone can thrive.”

Haaland previously served as New Mexico’s Native American Vote director for President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. During her campaign for governor, she has unveiled policy proposals focused on helping children learn to read earlier, lowering utility and housing costs, increasing household incomes, strengthening public safety and expanding access to quality, affordable health care.

[President Obama]:

New Mexico, you have an opportunity to elect a real fighter as your next governor: Deb Haaland.

Deb and I started out as Organizers and we learned that leadership is about listening, getting to know people, and hearing their stories.

That’s what Deb did on my campaign, knocking on thousands of doors in Indian Country.

And all these years later, she’s still listening to folks in every corner of New Mexico.

As governor, Deb will lower costs, strengthen education, build safer communities, and protect your healthcare because she knows what families are up against.

As a single mom, Deb relied on SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and started a small business.

Deb has spent her entire career fighting for New Mexicans, and she’ll keep on doing it.

So, vote for Deb Haaland for Governor.
