House FY2027 Appropriations Proposal Boosts Tribal Housing Funding by $46 Million

The House THUD Appropriations Subcommittee has released its FY2027 funding proposal, which includes $1.157 billion for IHBG Formula Grants, a $46 million increase over FY2026.

The proposal reflects bipartisan support for Tribal housing and community development, with an emphasis on stable formula funding, Tribal veterans’ housing and infrastructure.

Key Proposed Funding Levels:

• $1.157 billion for IHBG Formula Grants — an increase of $46 million over FY2026
• $125 million for IHBG Competitive Grants — a decrease of $25 million
• $100 million for the ICDBG Program — an increase of $25 million
• $10 million for Tribal HUD-VASH as a dedicated line item
• $7 million for Training and Technical Assistance
• $1 million for Title VI Loan Guarantee subsidy authority
• $60 million in Title VI guarantee authority — an increase of $10 million
• $1 million for Section 184 credit subsidy
• $1.8 billion in Section 184 loan guarantee authority
• $15 million for the Native Hawaiian Housing Block Grant Program

Reminder: FCC Tribal Workshop August 20-21, in Albuquerque

The Federal Communications Commission will host a FCC Tribal Workshop will be in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 20-21, 2026, as announced in the Public Notice published on August 4, 2026.  Joining the FCC will be the Commerce Department (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Rural Utility Service) and the New Mexico and Arizona state broadband offices.  The FCC will also highlight our data and mapping initiatives.

  • Date and Time:  Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. MDT and Friday, August 21, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. MDT
  • Where:  National Indian Programs Training Center (NIPTC), 1011 Indian School Road, NW, Suite 254, Albuquerque, NM 87104
  • Registration:  The workshop is free, but registration is required.  To pre-register, please email your name, title, Tribal affiliation, and contact information, with the subject line, “August Workshop,” to Native@fcc.gov.
  • Who should consider attending?  Tribal government leaders, Tribal telecommunications and IT managers, Tribal government and community planners and managers, Tribal enterprise specialists, Tribal broadband providers, and Tribal Geographic Information System (GIS) staff members should consider attending.

In conjunction with the workshop, on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the FCC Broadband Data Task Force is also offering to hold office hours for tribal entities with questions about the FCC’s broadband serviceable location Fabric and to provide hands on GIS support.  You may also indicate interest in the Broadband Data Task Force’s office hours when registering for the workshop.

GIS Software Training Opportunity
