The Yellowstone and Marshals actor joins Levi Rickert to discuss authentic Native storytelling, cultural traditions and the issues affecting Native communities.
Mo Brings Plenty, a citizen of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and actor known for his role in Yellowstone and its spinoff Marshals, joins Native Bidaské to discuss authentic Native representation in Hollywood, preserving cultural traditions and why Native people must make their voices heard at the ballot box.
Brings Plenty, who plays Mo in Marshals, also serves as an American Indian consultant on the CBS series. In that role, he works to ensure Native cultures, traditions and ceremonies are represented accurately on screen.
During the conversation, Brings Plenty discusses the importance of involving Native people with firsthand cultural knowledge in television and film productions. He emphasizes the role of traditional knowledge holders and community members in helping productions move beyond stereotypes and portray Native people authentically.
Brings Plenty also reflects on his commitment to maintaining cultural traditions while participating in modern society. He explains how braiding his hair, saying his prayers and participating in ceremonies connect him to his ancestors and the generations that came before him.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, Brings Plenty urges Native voters to participate in the electoral process, from tribal elections to state and federal races. “Our voice does matter. Our vote does have an impact,” he says.
Brings Plenty joins Native Bidaské on Friday, October 23, at 12 p.m. ET on Facebook, YouTube, NativeNewsOnline.net, and TikTok.
