ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Mary Peltola, a former Alaska congresswoman and Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, joined Horizon Air flight attendants on a picket line Wednesday, Oct. 14, to hear directly from workers about their efforts to secure better pay and working conditions.

Peltola said she supports the flight attendants’ right to organize and collectively bargain, emphasizing the importance of unions to Alaska’s workforce.

“As an independent voice for Alaska, I will always stand up for Alaskan’s right to organize and collectively bargain for better pay and working conditions,” Peltola said. “Alaska is a union state. Our workers have always shown up for Alaska, and I’ll always show up for them by fighting for fair wages, safe workplaces, and the freedom to organize.”

Peltola has highlighted labor rights and economic issues as central parts of her political platform. During her time in Congress, she co-sponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, legislation intended to strengthen workers’ collective bargaining rights and protections for union organizing.

She also supported the Willow oil project, which her campaign says would provide stable, well-paying union jobs in Alaska. Peltola has opposed factory trawling and organized opposition to the proposed Kroger-Albertsons merger, arguing that the deal could increase grocery prices and harm workers.

Her appearance on the picket line comes as she emphasizes affordability, wages and workers’ rights in her campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Peltola has pledged to pursue tax relief for working Alaskans, higher wages and lower costs for groceries, gasoline, housing and child care. She has also called for addressing what she describes as a federal system that prioritizes special interests over working families.

Her economic agenda includes restoring Alaska’s fisheries and expanding oil and gas development to help lower energy costs.

By joining the Horizon Air flight attendants on the picket line, Peltola underscored her support for organized labor and the role of collective bargaining in helping workers negotiate compensation and workplace protections.
