Gun Lake Casino Resort has earned the prestigious AAA Four Diamond designation, placing the property among an elite group of hospitality destinations in West Michigan.
Gun Lake Casino Resort is owned and operated by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi, commonly known as the Gun Lake Tribe. The resort is located in Wayland, halfway between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
The recognition follows a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the American Automobile Association (AAA), which reviewed the resort’s upscale amenities, guest service, cleanliness, safety, and overall hospitality standards. Only three other hotel properties in West Michigan currently hold the distinction.

Gun Lake Casino Resort expanded into a full-service resort destination in March 2025 with the opening of its 16-story luxury hotel tower, full-service spa, and new dining venues. In June 2025, the resort unveiled the Wawyé Oasis, a glass atrium featuring more than 32,000 square feet of tropical space with live palm trees and year-round 80-degree temperatures.

AAA inspectors conducted unannounced on-site evaluations of the property, examining everything from landscaping and room quality to security, dining, technology, and overall ambiance. The Four Diamond designation requires annual re-evaluation to ensure properties continue meeting AAA’s high hospitality standards.
