Native Vote 2026
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) has endorsed Deb Haaland (Laguna Pueblo) in her campaign to become New Mexico’s next governor.
Heinrich announced his endorsement this week, praising Haaland’s leadership and commitment to New Mexico families.
“I’ve worked with Deb a long time, and I can tell you this: Deb is incredibly kind, leads with compassion, and cares deeply about New Mexico and the people who call it home. As New Mexico’s next Governor, Deb has the experience and commitment needed to stand up for working families and fight back against Donald Trump,” Heinrich said. “I’m proud to endorse Deb and work alongside her to deliver for New Mexico.”
Haaland, who on Tuesday secured the Democratic nomination for governor, said the campaign is focused on improving the quality of life for New Mexicans.
“This election is about building a future where every New Mexican can afford rent and pay their groceries in the same month, see a doctor when they are sick and when they are well, feel safer in their communities, and have a quality public education. I am honored to have Senator Heinrich’s endorsement,” Haaland said.
She also praised Heinrich’s record of public service.
“He has spent his career fighting for New Mexico’s families, protecting our public lands, creating opportunities, and standing up for our state,” Haaland said.
Heinrich’s endorsement adds another prominent supporter to Haaland’s campaign as she seeks to become New Mexico’s next governor.
