Three Diné veterans and their families celebrated a new chapter on Tuesday after receiving the keys to newly constructed homes funded through the Navajo Nation’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation.

The 1,344-square-foot homes, located in the communities of Nazlini and Low Mountain, include utilities and appliances and are part of a broader effort by the Navajo Nation to address housing needs and improve living conditions for veterans.

Navajo Nation Speaker Crystalyne Curley attended the key presentation ceremony, marking another milestone in the Nation’s ongoing investment in veteran housing.

“Through strategic allocations of ARPA funding, the Navajo Nation Council continues to expand access to safe, quality, and permanent housing for its people, including veterans who have served our country,” said Speaker Curley. “The local veterans organizations mobilized and helped one another to submit housing applications, they deserve much of the credit.”

Curley also thanked members of the 24th Navajo Nation Council for approving $50 million in ARPA funding for veteran housing and acknowledged former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez for signing off on the allocation.

“Our veterans have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms and serving their communities,” said Speaker Curley. “Providing a safe and comfortable home is one way we honor that service. This home represents more than just a building, it represents hope, stability, and our commitment to improving their quality of life.”

The housing project is part of the Navajo Nation’s ARPA-funded investments in critical infrastructure and community development. ARPA funds have supported housing, water, broadband, and other essential projects across the Navajo Nation.

Housing remains a top priority for the Navajo Nation Council as many families continue to face overcrowded housing conditions and limited access to adequate homes.

The new residences were built by BITCO Corporation, which is providing a total of 80 homes for Navajo veterans throughout the Nation.

BITCO founder and CEO Jeremiah Bitsui said the company remains committed to serving those who have served their communities and country.

“With tremendous heart and dedication, the BITCO team proudly partnered with Navajo leadership to honor and serve our veterans,” Bitsui said.

The veterans and their families expressed gratitude for the support they received throughout the housing process, noting that the new homes will provide greater security, comfort, and opportunity for future generations.

The 25th Navajo Nation Council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting housing initiatives that strengthen communities and ensure Navajo families have access to safe, sustainable homes.
