Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joined the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Arizona for its monthly luncheon, where Navajo Nation officials outlined economic opportunities for businesses, contractors, entrepreneurs, and development partners interested in working with the Navajo Nation.

During the event, representatives from the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development discussed business registration, commercial site leases, tourism development, infrastructure projects, and broader efforts to strengthen the Navajo economy by keeping more revenue within tribal communities.

“Economic development is where true tribal sovereignty happens,” President Nygren said. “The stronger the Navajo Nation becomes, the stronger our communities become. Every business, every project, and every investment creates opportunities for Navajo workers, entrepreneurs, families, and future generations.”

The luncheon focused on encouraging stronger partnerships between tribal government, Native-owned businesses, investors, and outside partners seeking to work within the Navajo Nation.

Sharlene Platero, division director for the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development, urged business owners to register with the Nation and participate in development opportunities.

“We are here to help the business community create jobs for our Navajo people,” Platero said. “We want to keep more Navajo dollars on Navajo land, and that takes partnership, investment, and businesses willing to grow with our communities.”

Nygren also highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at expanding financing opportunities for Navajo businesses, investing in tourism corridors, developing mixed-use housing and retail projects, and completing wastewater treatment infrastructure in larger Navajo communities.

The event brought together tribal business leaders, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, and community partners for networking and discussions about long-term economic collaboration within the Navajo Nation.
