Native Vote 2026. New Mexico Wild Action Fund on Tuesday announced its endorsement of former U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland in the New Mexico gubernatorial race, adding to a growing list of supporters backing her campaign.
The endorsement is Haaland’s 110th since launching her bid in February 2025 and reflects continued momentum from environmental and grassroots organizations across the state.

New Mexico Wild Action Fund, which focuses on protecting the state’s public lands, waters and wildlife, said the endorsement underscores Haaland’s conservation record in Congress and at the Department of the Interior.
“Deb Haaland is, without a doubt, the candidate most dedicated to protecting and restoring New Mexico’s wilderness and public lands,” said Mark Allison, the organization’s executive director. “Throughout her career in Congress and as the Secretary of Interior, she made unprecedented investments in making sure Americans have access to the outdoors.”
Allison pointed to Haaland’s proposed Every Child Outdoors initiative as a key reason for the endorsement.
“As governor, her Every Child Outdoors initiative will forge pathways for our next generation of land stewards while protecting the places that make New Mexico special,” he said. “She understands that protecting our environment is about our health, our wellbeing, our economy, and our natural and cultural heritage. New Mexico Wild Action Fund is proud to endorse Deb as the next governor of our great state.”
Haaland, a member of Laguna Pueblo, former congresswoman and working mother, has frequently cited her personal and professional background as shaping her views on the importance of outdoor spaces and environmental stewardship.
During her tenure as Interior secretary, Haaland directed more than $10 billion to New Mexico for infrastructure, conservation and clean energy projects, according to her campaign. The investments supported workforce development, job creation, clean water projects in eastern New Mexico and broader efforts to protect water resources statewide.
Last week, Haaland rolled out her education platform, which includes the Every Child Outdoors initiative aimed at integrating outdoor learning into K-12 curricula.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of New Mexico Wild Action Fund,” Haaland said. “My career has been guided by protecting our outdoor spaces — it’s important for our health and our economy.”
