Thousands gathered on Saturday, one month to the date, to celebrate the life of Renee Nicole Good at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis.
Good, 37, was killed by an ICE agent during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Jan. 7.
The celebration was organized by the Twin Cities community, the First Peoples of Mni Sóta Makoce, the NDN Collective and other local groups.
The attendees stood in 25 degree weather to pay tribute to the slain mother.
A rabbi addressed the gathering and read a message from Becca Good, Renee’s wife.
“I want Renee and our family to be known for how we practiced radical kindness every day,” the message read. “We know what we have witnessed. We know that this is wrong.”
Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the 19th keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe and Bundle, conducted a traditional ceremony. He called for peace and non-violence.
