In a letter to tribal nation leaders, the principal chief of the United Houma Nation, Lora Ann Chaisson, is inviting Indigenous citizens, communities, and supporters across the country to participate in a Day of Prayer and Reflection on June 27, 2026.

The observance calls on people of all faiths, spiritual traditions, and beliefs to unite in prayer, reflection, or meditation for peace, healing, and an end to hatred and violence.

In the message, Principal Chief Chaisson noted that as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Indigenous Peoples recognize histories that extend thousands of years before the nation’s founding. They acknowledged the hardships endured by Native ancestors during 250 years of colonization while honoring their resilience and perseverance.

The call emphasizes healing, unity, and hope, encouraging participants to pray for children, elders, communities, Tribal nations, and future generations.

Supporters are asked to pause on June 27, wherever they may be, for a moment of prayer or reflection and to seek peace over division, understanding over conflict, and hope over despair.

Additionally, this Day of Prayer and Reflection coincides with the first day of the United Houma Nation’s annual powwow.
