Chumash Casino Resort launched its annual Project Pink campaign Oct. 1 in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising funds for a local nonprofit through the sale of pink-themed sweets, snacks and beverages throughout the resort’s restaurants and eateries.
A portion of this year’s proceeds, along with a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation, will be donated to the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara (BCRC).

“Project Pink is a powerful example of how a simple act, like purchasing a dessert or drink, can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life,” said Kenneth Kahn, Tribal Chairman of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. “By supporting the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara, we’re helping ensure that people facing breast cancer in our community have access to the guidance, resources and support they need close to home.”
Throughout October, Grains & Grounds will feature a variety of new Project Pink menu items, including guava and coconut cake made with coconut sponge cake, guava confit and coconut mousse; lime cupcakes with hibiscus buttercream; rosewater almond cake; raspberry and white chocolate boxing gloves symbolizing the fight against cancer; chocolate raspberry cookies; and raspberry Rice Krispies treats.
Returning favorites include red velvet cake, chocolate raspberry cake, strawberry Grand Marnier cake and funfetti pound cake. The campaign will also feature its signature chocolate molds, including high-heel shoes, purses and other designs.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed each October to raise awareness about breast cancer risks, the importance of screening and early detection, and the need for continued support of cancer research and services.
“Every dollar raised through Project Pink helps strengthen a local resource for people navigating breast cancer,” said Armando Martinez, director of donor relations for the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara. “At BCRC, we see firsthand how important it is for someone to have a place to turn for guidance, connection and support throughout their journey. We are grateful to the Chumash Casino Resort, its Food and Beverage team, and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation for helping make that support possible right here in our community.”
The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara provides free, nonmedical support and resources to people throughout Santa Barbara County, offering assistance from diagnosis through treatment, recovery and survivorship.
The center is located at 100 N. Hope Ave., Suite 1, in Santa Barbara. More information and appointments are available by calling 805-569-9693.
The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation has supported hundreds of organizations, schools and community groups through charitable giving. The tribe has donated more than $30 million to organizations in the community and across the country as part of its longstanding tradition of philanthropy.
The Chumash Casino Resort is located on Highway 246 in Santa Ynez, California. The resort is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is limited to guests age 21 and older.
