The Bureau of Indian Education has appointed Mackie Moore (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma)  as the interim president of Haskell Indian Nations University. He will serve in this role while a national search is conducted for a permanent president.

Moore, a Haskell alumnus, currently serves as dean of the College of Business at the university. He brings more than 20 years of experience in tribal and higher education leadership, with a background in academic administration, student success initiatives, and institutional development.

As interim president, Moore will oversee Haskell’s daily operatof ions and manage both academic and administrative functions. His appointment provides stable leadership as the university continues its mission to serve Native students from federally recognized tribes nationwide.

This leadership transition follows the tenure of President Frank Arpan, whose work advanced student achievement, strengthened cultural preservation, and supported institutional growth.

The Bureau of Indian Education will collaborate closely with the Haskell Board of Regents in the search for the university’s next president. Supporting Haskell’s mission remains a top priority for the BIE, which is committed to promoting tribal education, fostering student success, and enhancing the university’s role as a national leader in Indigenous higher education.
