California Indian Nations College (CINC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded full 8-year institutional accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)—a historic milestone in the college’s mission to offer accessible, culturally grounded higher education.

California Indian Nations College (CINC) is a nonprofit, two-year institution dedicated to empowering Native and non-Native students through culturally responsive education that centers indigenous knowledge, leadership, and community engagement. Chartered by the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, CINC offers associate degree programs and fosters academic success through a supportive, inclusive learning environment.

This accreditation recognizes CINC as a regionally accredited institution acknowledged by both the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. The achievement reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to academic quality, institutional effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

A Milestone Rooted in Community and Commitment

“This moment reflects our community’s resilience, the dedication of faculty and staff, and the support of tribal partners and legislators who share our vision,” said CINC President Celeste Townsend.
“We are honored and deeply humbled to receive full accreditation status. Achieving this status empowers our students with greater academic opportunity and strengthens pathways for their future success.”

What This Means for Students

Accreditation opens the door to:

  • More academic programs
  • Expanded student services and resources
  • More community-centered events
  • Enhanced pathways for transfer and career advancement
  • With this recognition, CINC is poised to offer even more opportunities for students to rise, learn, and grow.

Help us defend tribal sovereignty.

At Native News Online, our mission is rooted in telling the stories that strengthen sovereignty and uplift Indigenous voices — not just at year’s end, but every single day.

Because of your generosity last year, we were able to keep our reporters on the ground in tribal communities, at national gatherings and in the halls of Congress — covering the issues that matter most to Indian Country: sovereignty, culture, education, health and economic opportunity.

That support sustained us through a tough year in 2025. Now, as we look to the year ahead, we need your help right now to ensure warrior journalism remains strong — reporting that defends tribal sovereignty, amplifies Native truth, and holds power accountable.

Levi headshotThe stakes couldn't be higher. Your support keeps Native voices heard, Native stories told and Native sovereignty defended.
