SYRACUSE – The World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC) is hosting the Iroquois Nationals vs. Canada game at the War Memorial Arena in downtown Syracuse at 5 p.m. – EDT, today, Sunday, September 2015. This will be the first time these two teams have faced each other in box lacrosse since the Championship Game at the 2011 World Indoor Championships in the Czech Republic when Canada took home the gold.
Grammy award winning artist Joanne Shenandoah sang the Canadian National Anthem before Sunday’s game. In addition to winning a Grammy, Joanne has also won over 40 music awards including a record 13 Native American Music awards. Joanne is part of the Onondaga Nation and was the female narrator and collaborator at the Opening Ceremonies for the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC).
“The World Indoor Lacrosse Championships has gotten off to a great start,” said Syracuse born executive producer Erick Weiss of Honeysweet Productions. “Not only will we get to see two of the premier teams in box lacrosse facing off tonight but we also get to hear what is sure to be an excellent performance by Joanne Shenandoah.”
The FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is an international tournament that is held every four years. The 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships were held in Prague, Czech Republic. The defending World Champions are Canada, with the Iroquois Nationals finishing second and the United States finishing third.
