AZTEC, NEW MEXICO – The Bloomfield Police Department reported that a school shooting took place this morning at Aztec High School in Aztec, New Mexico.
It has been reported that three people were fatally wounded.
“It’s tragic when our children are harmed in violent ways especially on school campuses. We express our condolences to those families who have been harmed,” Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye said. “Our prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy and everyone throughout San Juan County. We are asking for prayers for these families.”
According to Navajo Nation Chief of Police Phillip Francisco, all area schools are currently on preventative lockdown as a precautionary measure.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office reported that Aztec High School is locked down and being evacuated. They are asking area residents to avoid the area.
“These things are unpredictable. We do all that we can to protect our loved ones, our children and family,” President Begaye said. “Again, we extend our condolences to the families of those who were harmed in today’s tragic incident.”
The Office of the President and Vice President (OPVP) thank all law enforcement and emergency responders that were involved in responding to today’s tragic shooting.
Students are being transported to McGee Park in Farmington, New Mexico pick-up.
