“In 1991, we watched as Anita Hill braved hearings designed to undermine and discredit her. Twenty-seven years later, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee made every effort to replicate that disgrace,” said Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center. “We were forced to watch once again as a woman recounted her trauma for public consumption, all while the majority of the committee rallied around Brett Kavanaugh. His record, his past actions, and now his testimony and demeanor have proven that Kavanaugh is unfit to sit on the highest court in the country. Know this: as they decide whether these confirmation hearings, like Justice Thomas’, will fall on the wrong side of history, women are watching. The whole country is watching. And we are ready to fight.”

“Thank you, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. You should not have to relive your trauma, but we are grateful for your willingness and courage to share your story. We believe you, and we believe all survivors. Millions of women and countless survivors were watching, and they saw a Senate majority that has abandoned them,” said Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “Thursday’s testimony further disqualified Brett Kavanaugh. Senators watched as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford shared a dark and traumatic memory, unequivocally naming her attacker under oath, and as Brett Kavanaugh delivered hyperpartisan and belligerent testimony.  Respect the integrity of Supreme Court and reject Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.”

“Thursday’s hearing made abundantly clear that Brett Kavanaugh must not serve on the Supreme Court,” said Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. “He was belligerent, political, and deceptive—and showed he does not have the temperament needed to be a Supreme Court justice. In contrast, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was courageous, humble and honest.  The all-male Republican members didn’t even have the decency to question her directly. By not calling additional witnesses nor demanding an FBI investigation, Senate Republicans have made it clear that they want to move forward at any cost.  People across the country are speaking out and demanding their senators believe survivors of sexual assault and vote no on Kavanaugh.”

“What more do senators need to see or hear? Kavanaugh’s confirmation cannot move forward,” tsaid Leah Greenberg, Co-Executive Director of the Indivisible Project. “Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and other women have come forward to share their stories about this nominee despite great personal risk. We now need to be able to count on senators to follow their lead, be bold, and oppose Kavanaugh. What more do senators need to see or hear? Kavanaugh’s confirmation cannot move forward.”

“When Dr. Christine Blasey Ford stood before the committee yesterday she wasn’t just speaking for herself, she spoke a truth for millions of women across this country,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro Choice America. “We will never forget Dr. Blasey Ford. We will also never forget the way Republicans in the Senate have treated her, her story and this process. Brett Kavanaugh walked into yesterday’s hearing a known liar. He walked out not only a liar but exposed for being the partisan political figure, not an impartial judge. He is wholly unqualified for a seat on the Supreme Court, or really any court in this country. We will take to the streets today and keep march straight through election day until Republicans hear our message: enough is enough.”

“Dr. Christine Blasey Ford put everything on the line to tell her story. And we believe her,” said Marge Baker, Executive Vice President at People For the American Way. “It’s unconscionable that the Senate would brush her credible testimony aside in order to install Brett Kavanaugh in a lifetime seat on the United States Supreme Court. They are playing politics with women’s lives. Supreme Court Justices should be held to the highest standard, and it’s a standard that Brett Kavanaugh simply hasn’t met.”

“You couldn’t find a more stark contrast than Dr. Christine Ford and Judge Brett Kavanaugh in both temperament and character. While she was courageous, compelling and poised, giving voice to a trauma far too many of us have experienced, Judge Kavanaugh was aggressive and hostile as he demonstrated how entitled he feels to a lifetime appointment to the nation’s highest court,” said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). “While the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh certainly merit the FBI investigation the GOP fears and refuses to order, his partisan antipathy toward Democrats and rancor toward anyone questioning his fitness should in and of itself be disqualifying.“

“The moms of America are grateful for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s courage and deeply sorry for the sacrifice of privacy and security that she has endured,” MomsRising executive director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner said. “Moms across our nation are outraged that following Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s courageous testimony, Judge Kavanaugh once again evaded fair questions and misled the committee and the country. The way he comported himself was shameful. Under no circumstances should he be confirmed.”

“Trying to put an accused sexual predator on the Supreme Court is despicable, even for Senate Republicans,” CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess said. “Republicans’ insistence on jamming through Kavanaugh’s confirmation in the face of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s and other survivors’ courage proves yet again that their party is willing to ignore, demonize, and undermine women for partisan gain. It is time to do everything we can to let them know their misogyny is appalling, and that we will hold them accountable.”

“Dr. Christine Blasey Ford has spoken truth to power. And we stand with her every step of the way,” said Jess Morales Rocketto, Political Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance. “Yesterday should’ve been the nail in the coffin for Kavanaugh’s nomination. His confirmation would represent the worst of toxic masculinity. Any Senator who votes for Kavanaugh, will be voted out in November.”

“The contrast was clear. Dr. Blasey Ford remained genuine, humble, and confident even as she presented the most vulnerable details of her life with nothing for her to personally gain. Judge Kavanaugh, however, used his time to deliver a rehearsed and evasive tirade in playing the victim. Moving forward with this nomination would be a national disgrace and disservice,” said Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) National Director Don Kusler.

“We believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, and no Senator could hear her testimony and still vote for Brett Kavanaugh,” said Chris Kang, Chief Counsel for Demand Justice. “Kavanaugh showed us who he really is—a belligerent political operative with disdain for the Senate. His disrespect to Senator Klobuchar alone is disqualifying and proves he does not have the integrity or temperament to be a judge at any level. Women are watching, America is watching, and history is watching.”

“We are in awe of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s courage in sharing her story, outraged that Senate Republicans are attempting to rush to confirmation without a fair investigation, and demanding that the Senate reject the Kavanaugh nomination,” MoveOn executive director Anna Galland said.“While Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony bolstered her tremendous credibility, Kavanaugh revealed himself to be belligerent, partisan, and lacking credibility on many questions about these incidents and his past. He has demonstrated he does not have the character, integrity, or temperament to sit on the Supreme Court. Overnight we’ve seen a groundswell of people around the country ready to make their voices heard.”
