Heavy Rains are Causing the Dam to Overflow on Tohono O’odham Nation; Evacuations Underway

TOHONO O’ODHAM NATION The Tohono O’Odham Office of Emergency Management has called for an emergency evacuation of tirbal citizens at this hour due to the imminent dam failure at Menegers Lake on the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Evacuation per authorities is strongly advised for the village of Ali Chuk.

Any residents in Menager’s Dam area need to move to the Northern part of the community immediately. Menager’s Lake is at a critical level.

TON-DPS is working to dispatch resources to the area.

The Tohono O’Odham Indian Reservation is located at the border of Arizona and Mexico. Parts of the reservation have received up to seven inches of rain in the past 72 hours, with most of the reservation receiving about four inches of rain.

The Menagers Dam is an old earthen dam that is 22 feet high.
