Haskell President Venida Chenault Announced as University of Kansas Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee

LAWRENCE, KANSAS — The Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity announced on Friday a select group of women to be inducted into the University of Kansas Women’s Hall of Fame. Haskell Indian Nations University President, Dr. Venida Chenault is among of group of honorees.

According to the announcement, Chenault (Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation) “has increased the capacity of Haskell to deliver a quality educational experience through strengthened partnerships at the local, state and federal levels. She has also increased student retention rates under her tenure.”

Taylor center Director, Kathy Rose-Mockry said in Friday’s announcement of the honorees, “These women are exemplary members of society in both overall impact and outstanding character. Many inductees accomplished feats in their respective fields at times when it was practically unheard of for a female to make such progress. The influence of their numerous contributions and achievements is immeasurable, and these women serve as awe-inspiring role models.”

“I’m honored to be recognized and to join other KU women of distinction who have made significant accomplishments using the education provided by the University of Kansas,” said President Chenault.  “I’m proud that my education has been used to benefit Haskell Indian Nations University, the students we serve, and the tribes represented at Haskell. Igwien (thank you).”

Chenault earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Other women selected for induction are Alferdteen Brown Harrison, Sharon Lee, Anne Levinson, Patricia N. Long and Carol J. Fabian. In addition, the center has selected Marci Penner as the Pioneer Woman award recipient.

A recognition banquet will be held April 13th at the University of Kansas Union Ballroom.
