WASHINGTON – Mika Leonard has joined the Native American Financial Services Association (NAFSA) as its Director of Business Development. She will be responsible for managing member relations and coordinating new opportunities for growth at the organization. Ms. Leonard is an enrolled member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma.
Prior to NAFSA, she most recently served as the Assistant Vice President/Director of Sales and Marketing at the Native American Bank in Denver, Colorado.
“Mika has a thorough understanding of both Indian Country and the robust opportunities that exist within the tribal financial services sector,” said Gary Davis, Executive Director of NAFSA. “As our organization continues to grow, she will be a tremendous asset to the members of NAFSA and to those engaged in financial services across Indian Country.”
Ms. Leonard previously worked at the U.S. Department of the Interior for the Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development and for the Office of the Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs, which assists and supports the Secretary of the Interior in fulfilling the United States’ trust responsibility to Indian Country. Ms. Leonard also supported her own tribe, serving as the Business Development Director for the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma’s federal contracting firm, Miami Technology Solutions, LLC.
“I am honored to be joining the team at NAFSA. After many years working in Indian Country, I am excited to continue on the path of supporting tribal self-sufficiency and economic development in our communities. I look forward to strengthening and supporting NAFSA’s membership and team, as we continue to advocate for tribal sovereignty in financial services.”
