EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. — Officers from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement arrested two people and seized more than 140 pounds of marijuana yesterday on Highway 212 near Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
At approximately 1:30 PM MST a CRST police officer performed a routine traffic stop of a commercially rented vehicle eastbound on highway 212. During the traffic stop a second officer deployed a K-9 drug detection dog which alerted to the odor of drugs. Upon inspection of the cargo area in the vehicle officers found and removed a large amount of marijuana hidden inside articles.
The CRST Law Enforcement placed the individuals in the custody of the Dewey County Sheriff’s office and turned over the confiscated items to federal authorities for prosecution.
