TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA — The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation has low-rent housing openings in the Oklahoma towns of Hulbert, Westville, Porum and Pryor.
Applications are now being accepted at all housing authority offices, will be mailed upon request or can be downloaded at http://www.hacn.org/ under the low-income rental housing tab.
Proctor Heights in Hulbert and Bushyhead Heights in Westville have one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments available. Wheeler Estates in Porum has two-bedroom apartments, and Cherokee Heights in Pryor has three-bedroom apartments available for rent.
The apartment complexes are managed by the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation and provide affordable homes for low-income families. Rent is not to exceed 30 percent of the family’s adjusted income. Security deposits will be waived.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
A member of the family must be a citizen of a federally recognized tribe
Household income must be below 80 percent of the national median income
Must be able to pass a background check
Preference will be given to Cherokee citizens who are elderly, disabled or handicapped and to working families.
