“Schimmel asserted herself. She said it’s a two-possession game, I’m the best player on the floor. … That’s what good players do,” USF coach Jose Fernandez said. “Up to that point, we had defended her very well.”

The 5’9” guard hit four 3-points shots that accounted for almost half of her 25 points. She scored 11 straight points over three-minute of play. In addition to her team-leading 25 points, Schimmel had seven rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes of play.

Schimmel’s 25 points help her to notch 100th double-digit scoring game of her career at Louisville.

Her sister, Jude Schimmel, a junior, did not suit up for the game due to an ankle injury she sustained on Friday, January 3, while practicing shooting.

Sunday’s victory was the ninth straight win for the Louisville Cardinals.

The next Louisville Cardinals’ women’s basketball game is this coming Wednesday, January 15 at7:00 p.m., against the University of Central Florida, at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.
