TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA — Sequoyah Lady Indians’ shortstop Kelsey Leach signed a letter of intent one week ago to play softball for the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
“Signing with the University of Missouri-Kansas City is really an honor,” Leach said. “I’m ready to go there and take my skills to the next level.”
The future UMKC Kangaroo batted .444 her senior season with nine homers and 40 RBIs. Leach, a career .417 hitter, had 28 career homeruns with 102 RBIs during her three-year career at Sequoyah High School.
UMKC finished last season with an 18-27 overall record and 6-7 in Summit League play. The Kangaroos will play their first season in the Western Athletic Conference in 2014.
“Kelsey is the first softball player from Sequoyah to sign with a NCAA Division I school in recent years,” Sequoyah Athletic Director Marcus Crittenden said. “We congratulate her on all of her accomplishments and wish her all the best at UMKC.”
