CROWNPOINT, NEW MEXICO – Navajo Technical University’s engineering club is taking donations for a holiday food drive to benefit families in the community through the Navajo Nation WIC Nutrition Program.
NTU is receiving can good donations until December 6th at collection boxes located throughout NTU’s Crownpoint campus. The club has already received a large donation on behalf of Smith’s groceries, but is looking for more donations from the community.
NTU currently offers two Bachelor of Science degree in engineering fields. The two degrees are in Industrial Engineering and the Computer and Electronics engineering.

Whipping Up Wedding Cakes at Navajo Technical University: NTU Baking students will sell cakes to the community for fall finals
Navajo Technical University’s advanced baking class will be sampling and selling wedding cakes to the community on December 5, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Hospitality Building of NTU’s Crownpoint campus as part of their fall finals.
The wedding cake event will be free and open to the public and will feature 12 – 15 wedding cakes that community members can vote on in the categories of best looking and best tasting. Students will be graded based on the number of votes they receive, and community members can purchase the cakes at the conclusion of the event.
“It’s a four tier wedding cake assignment with each tier being a different kind of cake,” stated NTU baking instructor, Joe Chapa. “Some of these cakes can sell for as much as $1,800 in a bakery and, on the Navajo Nation, they can run between $500 and $1,000.”
Students will be on hand to present their cake and explain what went in to them and how they were made. Prices on each cake will vary depending on what the student prices their work, but will usually run between $40 and $120.
