Two Shot; One Dead at Citizens Potawatomi Nation’s Grand Casino in Oklahoma

SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA — A pre-dawn shooting at the Grand Casino in Shawnee, Oklahoma resulted in one person injured and another dead.

The shooting that took place in the facility’s administrative office involved two employees of the casino.

Tribal police believe that 28-year-old Justin Wells shot Matthew Palmer, 22, before shooting himself, which resulted in his death.

Because the incident occurred in in a non-public area of the casino administrative offices and most employees had not yet arrived for their shift, no casino guests or other employees were endangered.

The FBI is now leading the investigation and will have the full cooperation of casino security and tribal police.

With more than 2,000 employees, Citizen Potawatomi Nation operates a variety of tribal enterprises including First National Bank, Grand Casino Resort, FireLake Discount Foods and the Community Development Corporation.
