Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, died Friday
EVERETT, WASHINGTON — Another shooting victim of the Marysville-Pilchuck High School tragedy has died. Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, died at 4:44 p.m. – PDT Friday afternoon at Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington.
Chuckulnaskit is the third shooting victim to die from the tragedy. The shooter, Jayleyn Fryberg, a member of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington, also died as a result of a self-inflicted gun shot.
Chuckulnaskit died from severe injuries according to Providence Hospital officials.
Shaylee’s family released a statement that was read by a hospital official after passing:
“Our hearts are broken at the passing of our beautiful daughter,” the statement read. “Shay means everything to us. In Shay’s short life she has been a radiant light bringing us incredible joy and happiness. She has been a loving daughter, a caring sister, a devoted friend and a wonderful part of our community. We can’t imagine life without her.”
Two other female students died as the result of the shooting. Zoe Galasso, 14, died at the high school that occurred on Friday, October 24. Gia Soriano, 14, died last Sunday night.
Two other shooting victims, who are Fryberg’s cousins, remain hospitalized. Andrew Fryberg, 15, is in critical condition and Nate Hatch, 14, is listed in satisfactory condition.
Even though the teen was not a member of the Tulalip Tribes, she was considered part of the extended tribal community according to a statement released by the Tribe, which reads in part:
“Shaylee and her family are part of our extended Tulalip community and we offer up our prayers. The families will continue to be in our thoughts as they grieve. With the loss of these three young lives there are no words that can truly express our compassion and condolences and the loss we feel.”
