The National Center to Host Second Native Edge Institute in Seattle

Publishing July 20, 2018

SEATTLE — The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (the National Center) will host its second Native Edge Institute (NEI) in partnership with Arctic IT, a Doyon Limited company, on August 23 at the Microsoft Corporation Headquarters in Redmond, Washington. All NEIs are made possible by a generous donation from KeyBank Foundation.

The Seattle NEI will have a specific focus on technology, covering the latest on the dark web, and exactly what tribes and tribally owned businesses can do to protect their assets. In addition, we will look at how technology can improve quality of life and greatly enhance user experience.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Arctic IT and Microsoft on our next Native Edge Institute,” said Chris James, President and CEO of the National Center. “NEI combines the National Center’s time-honored programming with outside expertise to provide the best information on how tribes and Native-owned business can leverage and prepare for changes to technology, specifically protecting themselves on cyberattacks.”

In the afternoon, attendees will hear from David Emerald, bestselling author of The Power of TED. He will discuss what it takes to be a leader in an increasingly complex and challenging world. Also speaking is Lillian Sparks Robinson, former Administrator of The Administration for Native Americans at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Robinson is a recently installed Board Member of the National Center.

Registration is limited. The first 20 registrants will receive an exclusive tour of Microsoft Cyber Defense Operations Center. All attendees who register and fill out a survey will also have a chance to win registration, hotel, and airfare to the 2019 Reservation Economic Summit in Las Vegas, NV March 25th-28th.
