CANNON BALL, NORTH DAKOTA — This past Wednesday, Chairman Dave Archambault II announced his endorsement of Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison for Chair of the Democratic National Committee. The two leaders share a common vision of bridging gaps and working together to achieve equitable outcomes for all.
Chairman Archambault stated, “In Keith I see a leader who will take the time to listen to Indian Country. He recognizes that underserved communities have especially urgent needs, and that we must have a seat at the table. His commitment to strengthening the relationship between the DNC and Native Americans is much needed and we look forward to working with him.”
Chairman Archambault also cited Keith’s longstanding advocacy for Urban Indians in his home district, and their shared goal of increasing voter turnout in both tribal and Urban Indian communities. Archambault was strongly compelled by Keith’s impressive civil rights record, including his support for the tribe in their efforts to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. Ellison has also pledged to elevate the role of tribal nations within the DNC, beginning by elevating the Native American Council to a full Caucus.
