Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to Banish Meth Dealers from Tribe

STANDING ROCK INDIAN RESERVATION – Then Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has taken drastic action to rid the reservation of methamphetamine from its midst.

The Tribal Council voted on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, to ban or exclude any individual 18-years-old or older convicted in tribal, state or federal court of dealing, distributing, manufacturing or trafficking methamphetamine or any narcotic drug, including any substance containing opium, heroin, isonipecaine, amidone, isoamidone, ketobemidone, lysergic acid, diethylamde, coca leaves, any opiate, or any compound or derivative or a controlled substance.Standing Rock enter

“This action did not come overnight, but was the result of months of deliberation and reports from local tribal members of the horrors that are committed against Standing Rock citizens where people are under the influence of the above mentioned dangerous narcotics. The safety of tribal members, citizens and especially our children is the primary concern to the Standing Rock Tribal Council,” reads, in part, the news released issues today.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is based in Fort Yates, North Dakota and straddles both North Dakota and South Dakota with a land mass of over one-million acres.

This action by the Standing Rock Tribal Council follows a similar measure taken by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, headquartered in Eagle Butte, South Dakota earlier this month on July 8, 2015.
