Senate Committee on Indian Affairs to Hold Hearing on Alcohol & Drug Abuse in Native Communities

Capitol BuildingWASHINGTON — On Wednesday, July 29th at 2:15 PM EDT, the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA) will hold a business meeting to consider S. 383, the Indian Trust Asset Reform Act. This bill would provide for Indian trust asset management reform within the Department of the Interior.

At the business meeting, the SCIA will also consider S. 732, a bill to amend the Act of June 18, 1934, to reaffirm the authority of the Secretary of the Interior to take land into trust for Indian tribes.

Immediately following the business meeting, the SCIA will hold an oversight hearing on “Examining the True Costs of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in Native Communities.”
