Senate Committee on Indian Affairs to Conduct Oversight Hearing to Set Indian Country Priorities for New Congress

WASHINGTON— The U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs will conduct its first oversight hearing of the 114th Congress today, January 28, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. – Eastern Time. The hearing is designed to set the priorities relating to Indian Country for the new Congress.

With the Senate being controlled by the Republicans, there has been a shift in chairman’s seat. Earlier this month, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (Wyoming-R) was elected chairman of the Committee on Indian Affairs. As chairman, his focus will be on measures related to jobs, energy and natural resource development, health care, education and tribal self-governance, according to the Committee’s website.

Senator Jon Tester (Montana-D), who served as chairman of the Committee in the 113th Congress will serve as vice-chairman.
