CHICAGO — Speaking in Chicago on Tuesday on the immigration issue, President Obama suggested to his audience Native Americans are the only people in America to have a say about immigration.

The president was in Chicago to push his new immigration agenda which he announced last Thursday. He spoke at the Copernicus Center, located in the city’s northwest Polish neighborhood.

“Even though the only people who have the right to say that are some Native Americans,” said President Obama.

President Obama explained his executive order he announced last Thursday, November 20, 2014, that will allow more than 4.3 million unauthorized immigrants to stay in the United States without the fear of deportation for three years and will allow others to enter the country with work permits.

Prior to his immigration message, the president spoke about the grand jury decision in Ferguson not to indict Officer Darren Wilson and its aftermath that brought on peaceful protests in major cities in the country. The president said the looting was inappropriate and the actions inexcusable.

Immigration remarks begin at around 10:00

As he moved from the Ferguson situation, the president transitioned into his immigration speech with these remarks:

“If you look at the history of immigration in this country, each successive wave there have been periods where the folks who were already here have said, ‘Well I don’t want those folks.'”

“Even though the only people who have the right to say that are some Native Americans,” said President Obama.

While the audience consisted of those in favor of the president’s executive order, there were those who heckled him because of the deportations that have taken place under his administration.
