Longest Walk 5 – War on Drugs and Domestic Violence – An Open Appeal to Help Heal Our Nation

Published April 17, 2016

CANTON, OKLAHOMA – Co-founder of the American Indian Movement Dennis Banks (Ojibwe) is appealing to Hollywood, the music industry, and old and new friends.

Right now, as the walkers are in the middle of Longest Walk 5, Dennis Banks is asking for help taking the awareness of this critical message against addiction and violence up a few levels. We are at crisis level with these problems, and they demand our attention NOW.

This historic photo (below) is of some who answered the call in 1978 on the first Longest Walk.

Sadly we have lost Marlin Brando, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, and Richie Havens, but we ask our old friends Muhammad Ali, Buffy Saint  Marie, Stevie Wonder, Dick Gregory, Max Gail, and David Amran to join us once again. We also respectfully ask Robert Redford, Leonardo DeCaprio, Johnny Depp, Tony Bennett, Daryl Hannah, Danny Glover, Harry Belefonte, and others to take up our cause.

Open Appeal

We have walked and run over 1,800 miles as of this date on this 3,600 mile journey. We realize now that these twin issues (drugs and domestic violence) connected with  each other often brings tragedy.

These issues are larger than we originally thought. We need our celebrity friends to use their platform to get the media to bring awareness to our events. We will do the walking. Help us get the mainstream press to cover us!

See you on the Walk.
