PHOENIX — The four month long, Phoenix Fashion Week emerging designer bootcamp draws to a close this October at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz. Eleven fashion designers and three accessory designers have been in competition for the title of Designer of the Year, while learning the ins and outs of the business of fashion. Among the designers is Loren Aragon, Owner and Designer of ACONAV, one of the first ever Native American fashion brands rising as a top designer in this year’s class. “It has been an intense four months since we began in June,” explains Aragon, “I’ve gained a ton of knowledge in this program, knowledge that I can apply to make my business stronger and a more sustainable fashion brand.”

The bootcamp program headed by Director, Brian Hill, has prepared all designers to understand, engage with, and build their target audience, staying true to their mission of ‘Bridging Designers & Buyers’. ACONAV came into the program with three years of experience in fashion design. “I’ve come into fashion unknowingly, but it’s now become a passion.” Tells Aragon. ACONAV continues to gain recognition for the use of unique printed textile representative of the Acoma Pueblo pottery art culture presented in a wearable art form. “I’ve wanted to represent the culture of my people with the hopes of inspiring future generations,” explains Aragon, “I feel that Native fashion needs a presence in the greater fashion industry and this experience is allowing me to do so.” Loren left his career as a mechanical engineer earlier this year to pursue the dream of becoming an established fashion designer. The education gained from being in the bootcamp is allowing Aragon to attain his goal, but also allows him to present on the acclaimed runway he had hoped to one-day present on just two years ago.

The Phoenix Fashion Week runway show will be a three-day ordeal on October 13th through October 15th. Each day introduces a different fashion category beginning with lifestyle brands on Thursday, contemporary brands on Friday, and closing with couture brands on Saturday. ACONAV will present its full 2017 Spring/Summer collection as a part of the couture fashion shows Saturday October 15th. More information is available at
