Man Killed by Tribal Police on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation

PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION — An investigation is underway into the fatal shooting last Friday of a man on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, near Kyle, South Dakota.

The unidentified man was shot and killed by Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety (OSTDPS) law enforcement after he entered the reservation from Bennett County in a high-chase pursuit by county law enforcement began in that county. Once the driver entered the reservation, tribal police took over the chase. The chase came to a temporary stop at Allen, South Dakota, but resumed as the driver drove towards Kyle.

The man fired mutliple gunshots at the OSTDPS officers during the pursuit, according the Oglala Sioux Tribe President Scott Weston.

The incident is currently under investigation by the FBI, BIA and OST DPS. No other information is available at his time due to the investigation process.
