Longest Walk 5 – War on Drugs Makes it Way to Gallup

GALLUP – The Longest Walk 5 – War on Drugs arrived in Gallup, New Mexico on Thursday, March 17, 2016.

Today is day 35 for the Longest Walk 5.

Dennis Banks, co-founder of the American Indian Movement, will lead a community forum at the Gallup Community Center, located at 410 Bataan Veterans Street, Gallup, New Mexico. Mayor Jackie McKinney will be hand to declare Friday, March 18th as Longest Day 5 – War on Drugs Day in Gallup. Officials from the Navajo Nation will also be present.

The forum will allow community members to come forward to discuss their own personal journeys as they have been freed from drug and alcohol affliction.

The Longest Walk 5 is a 3,500 spiritual walk across the United States that began in San Diego in mid-February and will end in Washington, D.C. on July 15, 2016.
