BUFFALO, NEW YORK – Indian Country’s pride, Bronson Koenig, a tribal citizen of the Ho-Chunk Nation in Wisconsin, and his Wisconsin Badgers have advanced to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament The Badgers beat defending national champions Villanova 65 – 62 Saturday afternoon.
Koenig had 17 points in the second round tournament game. In foul trouble, Koenig sat on the bench for almost 11 minutes during the second half of the game, but added some key points to help the Badgers win late in the game.
It is the fourth straight year Koenig, a senior, and his Badgers will play in the Sweet 16. The Badgers will play either Florida or Virginia at Madison Square Garden next Friday, March 24 in New York City.
Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, he is the son of Paul Koenig and Ethel Funmaker. The Funmaker family has a prominent name among the Ho-Chunk Nation, based in Black River Falls, Wisconsin.
