RED LAKE INDIAN RESERVATION – An overnight fire has destoryed the St. Mary’s Mission Church on the Red Lake Indian Reservation. The fire began on Friday evening and burned all night. All that was left on Saturday morning was the brick chimney. The cause of the fire is under investgation.
The church issued the following statement on its Facebook page on Saturday:
With heavy hearts, We would like to inform you that St. Mary’s mission church was destroyed in a fire during the night. The matter is currently under investigation, as information is provided we will inform our community.
The chuch was built in 1888. Adjacent to the church is a school where American Indian students attend.
There were no reported injuries as the result of the fire.
