ROSEBURG, OREGON—The names of the nine victims from the shooting at the Umpqua Community College were released on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, one of the named dead included a child of an employee of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe government.
The community college is located less than five miles from the tribal headquarters of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe, a federally-recognized tribe, located 180 miles south of Portland, Oregon.
Out of respect of the family, the Tribe is not releasing the name of its employee at this time.
All Tribal students enrolled in the Cow Creek Tribal Education Program that attend Umpqua Community College have been contacted and are safe, according to the Tribe.
The latest tragedy involving a lone shooter left 10 dead, including the twenty-six-year-old shooter. Native News Online has chosen not to give the shooter further recognition, therefore will not release his name.
