Congress Votes to Fund Government; Ends Short-lived Shutdown

WASHINGTON – Congress voted overnight to end the federal government that began at midnight. The Senate voted to pass the funding legislation with a 71-28 vote shortly before 2 a.m. The House of Representatives came near 5:30 a.m. with a 240-186 margin.

The bipartisan agreement includes nearly $90 billion in disaster aid for Texas, Florida, California, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

President Trump is expected to sign the legislation this morning to officially end the federal government shutdown.
