Carol’ Star Cate Blanchett On The ‘Empathetic Connection’ Of Acting : NPR

NEW YORK – Whenever a new person speaks out on having been harassed by Harvey Weinstein, the world goes immediately “Yeah, what else is new?” The former film producer and co-founder of The Weinstein Company is certainly in a pickle, as his rape allegations are under scrutiny both in the U.S. and the U.K.
Harvey Weinstein has fallen from grace of Hollywood after revelations of sexual harassment against females actresses
The newest star to accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment is none other than the dainty Cate Blanchett, the actress we’ve all learned to love in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It appears that Blanchett had sensed something ominous emanating from Weinstein and that the relationship between the two had always been somewhat tense.
What We Know
Cate Blanchett claimed that Weinstein acted inappropriately towards her in an interview she gave to the Variety magazine. She said that Weinstein had told her on multiple occasions that they weren’t friends.
The reason for that is that Blanchett would not satisfy whatever sexual requests Weinstein had. Now, many people might believe that Blanchett is merely riding the #metoo train, which is, safe to say, overcrowded at this point.
Obviously, there are many cynics, as well. The #metoo movement seems to have lost most of its credibility paradoxically due to how quickly it escalated into a worldwide agenda.
Anyhow, no one in their right mind would dare to say that Weinstein is innocent. Almost 80 women came forward and accused him of either having behaved inappropriately towards them or having abused them sexually.
If that number were smaller, then yes, one would’ve had reason to doubt that Weinstein really is the monster portrayed by the media. However, we are talking about tens of women – that’s enough to destroy any shred of uncertainty.
Cate Blanchett didn’t go into detail in her Variety interview, but we can only assume that this won’t be left hanging and that more facts will eventually surface on the Internet.
On Dylan Farrow
In the same interview, Blanchett tackled Dylan Farrow’s situation and said that at the time when she was cast in Blue Jasmine, she had no idea what Farrow had been put through by Woody Allen (who, by the way, both wrote and directed the film).
Naturally, she also said that these men should be prosecuted and that she hopes that they’ll be going to jail, where they ought to be.
The Bottom Line
Harvey Weinstein has denied all the allegation of sexual misconduct, abuse and rape until now. He is to respond to Cate Blanchett’s accusations, but it’s much of a fiasco, at this point. He will obviously deny these ones, too.
Sexual harassment in the 21st century is obviously outrageous. If you’ve ever been subjected to harassment, don’t be silent about it. It’s the best time to speak out. Read more about how to be successful in your endeavors.
Cate Blanchett joins the ranks of the women who have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual abuse and she probably won’t be the last cinema star to do so. We’ll get back to you with more details once they become available.
