DURANT, Okla. — Chickasaw citizen Bailey Walker, of Ada, was re-elected president of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma (AICCO) October 7, during “The Gathering,” an annual business conference and awards ceremony, hosted this year at the Choctaw Casino and Resort.
Walker serves as preferred vendor program coordinator for the Chickasaw Nation, where he advocates on behalf of entrepreneurs and suppliers aspiring to do business.
“As your state president, I wish to convey how much of an honor it is to serve in this capacity, if only to enhance your businesses along with our friendships,” Walker said, addressing the crowd of attendees at the gathering.
Within AICCO, he has served as an advisory board member, state board member and vice president of the state board. He was also the 2017 Paul and Pamela Bickford Volunteer of the Year.
Walker said since its inception in 1991, AICCO has promoted Indian and minority-owned businesses. The group advocates for positive changes in legislation, including state, federal and national levels. In addition, they work directly with business owners to advance their growth and prosperity, and provide them increased opportunities.
Some of these new opportunities are apparent with AICCO’s creation of new chapters across the state, as well as an entrepreneurial training program called Leadership Native Oklahoma. Two groups of leaders have graduated from the program so far.
This year’s volunteer of the year, Justin Arledge, of Ardmore, is also a Chickasaw citizen. He is the Oklahoma City chapter president of AICCO.
The Chickasaw Nation received the AICCO Large Business of the Year Award in 2017 after being nominated and voted for by organization members statewide.
The award represents the Chickasaw Nation’s efforts in pursuing AICCO’s mission: to promote and enhance the success of all American Indian people.
The Chickasaw Business Network, available at www.ChickasawBusinessNetwork.com or at (580) 559-0620, offers services such as the Small Business Development Center, Chickasaw Business Directory and Preferred Vendor Program.
