Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Chairman Harold Frazier is glad to announce that the 7th Generation Cinemas will finally be constructed after a 9 years of waiting.
EAGLE BUTTE, SOUTH DAKOTA — Recognizing the need to address significant social challenges of the Cheyenne River Reservation, Chairman Harold C. Frazier broke ground for the construction of the 7th Generation Cinemas.
The Ground Breaking took place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 29, 2015 the event started with a opening prayer by CRST Administrative Officer- Kenneth Little Thunder. Chairman Frazier addressed the need for community facilities that are geared for the youth and young adult populations here on the reservation. With the recent closing of the BIA swimming pool, and a deteriorating building that once held a bowling alley, the youth of this Reservation have little options for healthy, safe, and affordable recreation opportunities. “This movie theatre will provide employment opportunities to a reservation that experiences an annual unemployment rate of 80% or more, so every new job created is one step in the right direction,” stated Chairman Frazier.
In addition to Chairman Frazier’s opening address, CRST Council Representatives; Tuffy Thompson (District 6), Merrie White Bull-Miller (District 4), Raymond Uses The Knife (District 5), and CRST Treasurer Benita Clark, all provided words of excitement and praise for the project, in which specific enthusiasm was given for the work done by the Chairman Harold Frazier and CRST Tribal Projects Department for their determination to complete the project. The blessing of the grounds had been conducted by Richard Moves Camp and was immediately followed by the ceremonial breaking of the ground. Eagle Butte Boys and Girls Club members also participated in Wednesday’s ground breaking and took part in the ceremony; the club members received an honor song for their presence and participation by drum group Wakinyan Maza (Iron Lightning).
