YUMA, ARIZONA – Family and friends of Rose Wilson gathered on Monday at a Yuma area nursing home to celebrate her 103rd birthday, making her the oldest living Cocopah woman in the tribe.

Wilson was born in 1912*, the same year Arizona became a state.

She was born five years before the United States government established the Cocopah Indian Tribe Reservation.

Wilson’s grandson, Karras Wilson, says his grandmother “lived a very simple life…that’s what has kept her going.”
